The August 2026 Gameplay Leaks
In the week before Rockstar's planned Extended Look, gameplay clips of Grand Theft Auto VI spread across social media. The first showed Jason shooting hoops at his safehouse and causing chaos on the roads of the game's version of South Florida. Later clips showed him cycling along a crowded beach and walking through a store that sells games.
The leaks are linked to an account calling itself CyberLeek. Rockstar issued takedown notices for many copies of the clips.
Rockstar's Official Response
On August 26, 2026, Rockstar publicly acknowledged for the first time that the clips were real. It said the leak was "heartbreaking for our team" and that "this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time."
Rockstar also apologized for the long wait, said the game was "nearly there!" and asked fans to "wait a bit longer" to avoid spoilers before the November 19 release. The Netflix Extended Look aired as planned the next day.
- Clips confirmed real: yes
- Release date changed: no, still November 19, 2026
- Extended Look postponed: no, aired August 27, 2026
Legal Action Against the Leaker
Take-Two Interactive sought information from Microsoft and Discord that it believed was connected to the leak. Discord's marketing director, Ryan K. Rigney, said the company had "not yet been served with a subpoena" and would evaluate its validity and scope before responding.
The leaker promoted a memecoin in the clips and claimed to be protesting what they called anti-consumer practices, pointing to the code-in-a-box physical edition. Their identity has not been confirmed.
The 2022 Hack and Earlier Leaks
GTA 6 was also hit in September 2022, when development footage and source code leaked after a hack of Rockstar. The company said it was "extremely disappointed" but that development would continue as planned.
In December 2023, Trailer 1 leaked online shortly before its scheduled premiere, and Rockstar released it early. Despite these leaks, the official release date has only moved for polish, not because of any leak.
Should You Trust New GTA 6 Leaks?
Not every clip labeled a "GTA 6 leak" is real. Some YouTube uploads of supposed new footage admit they cannot be verified, and fan-made maps and mock-ups are often shared as leaks. Rockstar only confirmed the August 2026 CyberLeek clips.
On this wiki we only treat official announcements as fact. Leaked details, such as unconfirmed customization menus, stay off our guides until Rockstar shows them.
Did the Leaks Change Anything?
No release plans changed. Pre-loading still starts on November 12, the game launches on November 19, and Rockstar released its Launch Trailer on October 15, 2026.
If you want to stay spoiler-free, stick to Rockstar's official videos on our trailer page. The full release timeline is on our GTA 6 delay page.
Leaks vs Official Reveals
Rockstar followed the leaks with its own reveals. The Extended Look aired on August 27, 2026, and Rockstar released 29 official screenshots on August 31.
The Launch Trailer arrived on October 15, 2026, with music from Justice.
Why the Code-in-a-Box Edition Came Up
The leaker cited Rockstar's decision to sell the physical edition as a download code in a box rather than a disc. Physical copies go on sale November 12 and pre-load like digital purchases.
Rockstar has not commented on that criticism.
