Where Is GTA 6 Set?
Grand Theft Auto VI takes place in Vice City, USA, and the surrounding state of Leonida. Rockstar's official description sets the story "on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America," with a criminal conspiracy "stretching across the state of Leonida."
Vice City is modeled on modern-day Miami, and Leonida on Florida. Rockstar's official site lists the setting simply as "Vice City, USA," with the wider state of Leonida around it.
How Big Is the GTA 6 Map?
During a Rockstar North visit reported on August 27, 2026, Rockstar told The New York Times that the map is about three times the playable area of Red Dead Redemption 2. It also said Vice City is roughly twice the size of Los Santos from GTA 5. Multiple outlets, including VGC, carried the comparison.
Rockstar has not given a figure in square miles or kilometers. Fan estimates vary widely, and GTABase's own estimate is about 1.7 times GTA 5's map. The same report noted well over 600,000 animations in the game.
- Official comparison: about 3x Red Dead Redemption 2's playable area
- Vice City: about 2x the size of GTA 5's Los Santos
- Official square-mile figure: none
Leonida's Regions
Six regions have been named in Rockstar's trailers, screenshots and official material. Each covers a different part of the Florida-inspired landscape, from city beaches to wetlands and mountains.
- Vice City: the Miami-inspired metropolis, with areas including Ocean Beach, Little Cuba, the Tisha-Wocka flea market and the VC Port
- Leonida Keys: the island chain where Jason lives
- Grassrivers: wetlands
- Port Gellhorn: a coastal area
- Ambrosia: an inland region
- Mount Kalaga National Park: mountains and wilderness
Locations Spotted So Far
GTABase's interactive tracker lists 104 locations across 24 categories, found in trailers and screenshots. They include 38 landmarks, 10 cities and towns, and 3 safehouses. Named businesses include a Fleeca bank on Southwest 4th Street, Jeudy's Food Depot, the Love Magazine Diner and the Key Lento Marina Club.
Ultimate Edition locations also appear on the map, such as the Paradise Garage in Watson Bay and One-Eyed Willie's mod shop in Lake Leonida. See the Ultimate Edition page for those.
Is There an Official GTA 6 Map?
Rockstar has not published a full interactive map. The closest official item is the double-sided Leonida map poster (36 x 26 in) inside the $399.99 Collector's Edition.
Fan projects, including 3D recreations in Unreal Engine 5 and the community mapping project, piece the map together from trailer footage. They are useful for exploring, but they are not official and may change when the game launches.
Getting Around Leonida
Trailers show cars, motorcycles, boats, jet skis, seaplanes and helicopters. With the Keys, wetlands and coastline, water travel plays a bigger role than in recent GTA games. See every confirmed vehicle on our GTA 6 cars page.
Radio now follows you on foot, too, through Jason and Lucia's phones. Learn more about GTA 6 radio, or meet Lucia and Jason, whose stories span the state.
Vice City Neighborhoods
Vice City is the heart of the map. Areas spotted so far include Ocean Beach, Little Cuba, the Tisha-Wocka flea market and the VC Port. Public places like the City of Vice Fire Rescue station, the Vice Beach police department and the Vice City Arts Center metro station also appear on fan maps.
Rockstar says Vice City alone is roughly twice the size of GTA 5's Los Santos.
The Keys, Wetlands and Wilderness
Outside the city, the Leonida Keys are an island chain where Jason lives and works. Grassrivers covers the wetlands, a natural fit for airboats and swamp travel. Mount Kalaga National Park brings mountains and wilderness.
Port Gellhorn sits on the coast, and Ambrosia lies inland. Lake Leonida is also named in the Ultimate Edition as the home of One-Eyed Willie's mod shop.
GTA 6 Map vs GTA 5 and RDR2
Rockstar's own comparisons are the only official ones: about three times Red Dead Redemption 2's playable area, and a Vice City about twice the size of Los Santos.
Fan estimates against GTA 5 range from about 1.5 to 2.7 times bigger. We will update this page with exact measurements once the game launches.

How We Will Update This Map Guide
Before launch, every location on this page comes from Rockstar's trailers, screenshots and statements, or from trackers that cite them. Fan-made 3D maps are useful but not official, and we label them as such.
After November 19, 2026, we will add verified locations, safehouses and points of interest from the released game. For now, start with Lucia and Jason, whose stories cover the map.
