GTA 6 Release Date: When Does Grand Theft Auto VI Come Out?

The Official GTA 6 Release Date

Rockstar Games set the current date when it announced, on X, that "Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026." The same date appears on the official Grand Theft Auto VI site, in the PlayStation Blog and at the end of the Launch Trailer published on October 15, 2026. Every official channel we checked agrees, so November 19 is the date to plan around.

The date has held through several tests. Gameplay clips leaked in August 2026, and Rockstar responded by saying the game was "nearly there" while keeping the date. PCGamesN, updated in September 2026, describes the release as still on track after the leaks and the Netflix Extended Look.

What Time Does GTA 6 Unlock?

Rockstar has not published a single global unlock time. PlayStation Store listings collated by GamingBolt and GTAVice show the game unlocking at midnight local time on November 19. That makes the launch staggered around the world rather than simultaneous.

New Zealand is the first PlayStation region to unlock, and North America is among the last. The PlayStation schedule spans 15 release windows over about 19 hours. Pre-Loading Starts November 12

Rockstar says digital pre-loading begins on November 12, one week before launch. That applies to digital pre-orders on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Downloading early means you can start playing as soon as your region unlocks.

Physical copies are not on a disc. The box contains a download code, and physical copies go on sale on November 12, so physical buyers download the game the same way. See the pre-order guide for the full process.

How the Release Date Changed

GTA 6 originally targeted fall 2025. Rockstar then moved it to May 26, 2026. In November 2025, Take-Two announced a second move of six months to November 19, 2026, alongside its quarterly earnings.

Is GTA 6 Coming Out on PC at Launch?

No. The official site lists only PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and Steam has no Grand Theft Auto VI store page. Rockstar has historically launched on console first, and GTA 5 reached PC about 19 months after its console debut.

A GamesBeat report in October 2026, citing four anonymous sources, says the PC version is planned for the first quarter of 2027. Rockstar and Take-Two have not confirmed it. Our GTA 6 PC release date page tracks the latest status.

What Launches on November 19

The November release is the single-player story starring Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval, set in Vice City and the wider state of Leonida. Take-Two describes GTA 6 as "a single-player title," and no online mode is part of the launch. Rockstar has said it will continue to support GTA Online after GTA VI's release.

Release Date by Platform

The release date is the same on every launch platform. PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro owners get the game on November 19, and so do Xbox Series X and Series S owners. There is no staggered console release and no timed exclusive.

PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are not supported. PlayStation Support states the game "will not be available for PlayStation 4 consoles," and Rockstar's site lists only current-generation hardware. If you are still on an older console, you will need to upgrade to play.

Pre-Orders and Editions Before Release

Pre-orders opened at midnight local time on June 25, 2026, a week after Rockstar revealed the official cover art. You can pre-order on the PlayStation Store, the Xbox Store and at select retailers. Physical copies are a download code in a box and go on sale on November 12.

Timeline From Reveal to Release

Rockstar revealed the game with Trailer 1 on December 4, 2023. Trailer 2 followed on May 6, 2025, along with the first official character profiles. The official cover art arrived on June 18, 2026, and pre-orders opened a week later.
