GTA 6 on Xbox: The Essentials
Rockstar's official site lists Xbox Series X|S alongside PlayStation 5 as the two launch platforms. Pre-orders opened on the Xbox Store on June 25, 2026. Xbox published the Grand Theft Auto VI Launch Trailer on its own YouTube channel, where it drew more than 2.6 million views.
There is no Xbox One version. Like the PS5 release, the Xbox launch is single-player only.
- Release: November 19, 2026
- Pre-load: November 12, 2026 on Series X and Series S
- Standard Edition: $79.99 · Ultimate Edition: $99.99
- Xbox Game Pass: not announced
- Xbox One: not supported
Xbox Series X and Series S Performance
Rockstar and Microsoft have not published official resolutions or frame rates for either Xbox. Every official trailer and the Extended Look were captured on PS5, so no Xbox footage has been shown. Pure Xbox notes that Xbox performance can only be inferred for now.
The Series S is the console with the most open questions. Analysts expect compromises because of the game's huge world, but there are no official numbers. Treat any specific Series S resolution or FPS claim as speculation until Rockstar confirms it.
Pre-Loading and the Physical Edition
Pre-loads begin on November 12, 2026 for Xbox Series X and Series S. Digital pre-orders download automatically once pre-loading opens.
The physical Xbox Series X edition is a download code in a box, not a disc. Pre-ordered physical copies ship on November 12, so buyers can enter the code and pre-load before launch. You still need enough free storage for the full download.
Is GTA 6 on Xbox Game Pass?
No. GTA 6 has not been announced for Xbox Game Pass. You need to buy the Standard or Ultimate Edition to play it.
Be wary of posts claiming GTA 6 is "coming to Game Pass" without an official Xbox or Rockstar source. If that changes, it would be announced on Xbox Wire and Rockstar's own channels.
Xbox Pre-Order Bonuses
Every edition bought before November 20, 2026 includes the Vintage Vice City Pack. The free month of GTA+ is a PlayStation Store offer, and sources disagree on whether Xbox gets an equivalent, so check the Xbox Store listing before you buy.
The Ultimate Edition adds the '95 Grotti Cheetah, the Vapid Dominator Buggy, extra shops and more. See the full list on our Ultimate Edition page.
Xbox or PS5 for GTA 6?
Price and release date are the same on both. The PS5 version has more official detail so far, including DualSense features and a PS5 Pro Enhanced label, and Rockstar's site marks PS5 as where the game "Plays Best."
If you already own a Series X or Series S, you can play on day one at no disadvantage in content. Compare the PS5 version, check GTA 6 on PC, or see the release date page.
How to Pre-Order on Xbox
Open the Xbox Store on your console or at xbox.com, search for Grand Theft Auto VI and choose the Standard or Ultimate Edition. Select Pre-order and the game will download automatically when pre-loading opens on November 12.
Retailers also sell the physical Xbox edition, which contains a download code. Make sure you buy from an authorized seller. Our pre-order guide covers both routes.
Xbox Series S Storage
The Series S has less internal storage than the Series X, and Rockstar has not announced GTA 6's final file size. Physical buyers do not save space either, because the box only contains a download code.
Clear space before November 12 so the pre-load can finish. If you need more room, an expansion card or external storage may help, depending on your setup.
What's in the Xbox Ultimate Edition
The Ultimate Edition on Xbox matches the PlayStation version. It adds the '95 Grotti Cheetah, the '67 Vapid Dominator Buggy, the Hawk & Little Morgan Revolvers, engraved pistols for Jason and Lucia, and exclusive shops like Rideout Customs.
Both editions include the Vintage Vice City Pack when bought before November 20. See the full list.
